TB Support Groups

Under the Stop TB Partnership, Tajikistan, a network of Support Group Volunteers (SGVs) including TB survivors, family members, social workers, and nurses - works across various districts of Tajikistan to support the decentralization of TB care. These volunteers assist people with drug-resistant TB by promoting treatment adherence, raising awareness, providing counseling, and addressing social factors linked to TB in Tajikistan.

SGVs offer psychological and treatment support, raise awareness in families and communities, support active case finding, and connect people with TB to one another and to health facilities. They help build links between communities and health services through regular phone contact and home visits. Volunteers also report challenges to the Stop TB Partnership central team, which helps find solutions or escalates issues to responsible authorities.

The Partnership was founded on a shared mission to improve services for people and communities affected by TB. From the beginning, mutual support has been key - TB survivors stepped in to help others still in treatment. Over time, this network of dedicated volunteers has continued to grow and strengthen community-led TB care efforts.
